America – Turns out it has a lot of stuff in it

So, COVID is happening. Like a lot of people, this allowed me to work from home. It had gradually occurred to me that I didn’t actually have to work from my current home. So I went around the country! For much of the trip, my good friend Ashley accompanied me.

The original plan was to camp on the weekends and stay in Airbnbs on the weekdays. I needed somewhere stable, with wifi and cell phone service, from where to work on during the week. This is what we did for the firs part of the trip.

For part of the trip, we did some sort of an odd relay, where I would bike some distance, then take the car and rest a bit while she bikes, and so on. As the trip went on, we got hungrier to see more and more things, and it was just very tempting to drive two hundred miles instead of biking 50.

For much of the trip, we spent more time in a few cities to get to immerse ourselves more in the local culture, with bouts of travel in between. The bike was still extremely useful for getting around town(s).

I saved money doing this compared to my current lifestyle. Our DC apartment was $1,900 a month, and our Airbnbs cost us around $40/day. We cooked food and found cheap eats along the way – DC is expensive so quite a lot of eats seemed to cheap to us.

These pages cover my travels from September 2020 to early June 2021.
