We stayed in Old Town San Juan, by far the most touristy part. It was a walkable and picturesque network of alleyways.
Plenty of great views to be had in the PR, as most of the town is elevated above the sea.
At nighttime you could sea the rest of the city lit up across the bay – and a real life pirate ship, looting and plundering!

Animal-friendly San Juan had a park dedicated to pigeons, and another to cats! (I do not know why the cats did not raid the pigeon park.)
All around were reminders of the winter solstice festivities.
There were various other fun things to look at.
There was a little neighborhood near Old Town that we were told we could go if we were in search of villainy. It did appear a bit villanous! I didn’t take pictures inside but I did take a picture of the dark descent.

And, best of all, there were chickens. Mmm mmm, good!
