Santa Monica had a pleasant vibe, a crazy crowded beachfront and the best food I’ve had in the L.A. area, excepting perhaps the Chinese around my Rowland Heights home for the moment. It had, with the possible exception of the authentic East Asian food in Rowland Heights, the best food of the whole damn visit.
A few food places really stood out. We’ll start with the simple hamburger, done well by HiHo.
And then on to Sidecar, to get some of the fanciest and best donuts I’ve had these many a long year:

The true standout of the day was a bakery called Huckleberry. We had a ham sandwich on a baguette and a cheddar-applie biscuit, and both were phenomenal. If I lived nearby I would never stop going here. Never!
Oh and we also saw the Goodyear Blimp. Yet another sign – as if we ever needed one! – that hardly anyone really likes their children. If we did, we wouldn’t be OK with squandering all the helium they’ll need for science.
