We next stayed in rainforest, El Yunque, very near the national forest entrance. On the way in we saw a peacock.

Our lodging and the area in general were a beautiful, peaceful place. One of the cooler things was that we stayed in a treed house – a house with a tree growing right through it. This was both neat and inconvenient.
Right outside the treehouse was a little hiking trail down to a river.
A bit down the road was the entrance to the national forest.

My first trail there was a well-maintained stroll down to a little river.

There was plenty to experience there in a day.
Though peaceful and in nature, we were also only a 10-minute drive from the highway, with many food options. The winner here and for most of Puerto Rico for vegetarians was Burger King with a huge vegetarian menu!

On the way to the next place, we stopped at our first lechonera – a magical place where pigs are roasted whole.
