Golden Circle and Southern Coast

The next three days were spent living in half a Subaru as we explored first Iceland’s Golden Circle, and then the Southern Coast.

First we saw a waterfall which comes in the with and without people version.

We went to a national park where we walked in a fault line and saw where the Althing once convened.

Ate lava bread (bread cooked with geothermal heat) and hiked around a bit to another waterfall.

Saw geysers!

Iceland has many, many waterfalls.

And here is me in my half Subaru.

That’s the Golden Circle. We then drove along the southern Ring Road to Iceland’s largest glacier (not so big as it used to be!) and back.

Finally – a waterfall you can get behind.

A hearty lamb burger and desert and then on to more waterfalls.

Old timey Iceland museum, including a site for modern-day ritual sacrifice.

On to more waterfalls, scenery and food as we make our way to the glacier.

The glacier and a boat tour thereof.

Hike to a waterfall.

Lava fields and then some pretty good barbeque (not cooked with lava).

Black sand beaches and coastal scenery.

Bobby Fischer’s grave.

Skyrland.

A little geothermal site where you can cook an egg in the water.
